VINEYARD NOTES: Planted in 1998, Caroline’s Block of our Sonoma Valley vineyard which borders on Los Carneros is comprised entirely of French Dijon Clones 115, 667 and 777. This vineyard experiences the full impact of San Francisco Bay’s cooling fog in the summer. Phil Coturri’s Biodynamic vineyard management practices along with dry-farming and cane pruning result in small yields (less than 2 tons per acre) of the highest quality berries. The vineyard will be certified organic this fall.

WINEMAKING NOTES:  The fruit is harvested in the early morning hours, and destemmed Pinot Noir grapes consisting of a blend of 40% Dijon Clone 667, 40% Clone 777, and 20% Clone 115 were cold macerated for four days in an open-top tank before fermentation on wild (native) yeast. Adhering to traditional Burgundian techniques that advocate minimal handling, the wine was neither filtered nor fined, and racked only once into a Francois Freres barrel prior to bottling on March 8, 2006.

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of raspberry, plums, violet and floral tones fold into black cherry and cedar as the wine is swirled. The wine’s texture is rich and full, with a deep, lingering finish.
