Hello Friends,

The past year has flown-by, and it’s been exactly 12 months since my last e-mail update. While I had intended to send quarterly updates, we’ve been super busy with vineyard improvements, meeting many of you at the vineyard, and filling and shipping orders. Last December, Wine & Sprits Magazine rated our Cabernet Franc “91 Points” which resulted in sales & shipments for December exceeding the prior 11 months of the year combined. Despite the general economic slowdown, with real estate and luxury consumer goods hardest hit, this year has resulted in our sales more than tripling over the previous years. Our cooperative tasting room at the Winery Collective in Fisherman’s Wharf has also proved to be a big success.

We are thankful to all of our loyal customers and friends for our success, and we’re proud that our meticulous vineyard management has resulted in such wonderful wines. It’s also gratifying to receive praise from icons in the wine industry, such as Dave Rafanelli, and most recently from Paul Draper, founder of Ridge Vineyards, who commented to me after tasting our 2007 Canihan Pinot Noir “That’s the best Pinot Noir I’ve tasted”.

I recently sent our newly-bottled 2007 vintage wines to a few wine rating publications, and we were pleased to see that Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine, October issue rated our Pinot Noirs 93 Points (2007 Exuberance Pinot Noir); 90 Points (2007 Canihan Pinot Noir); and 86 Points (2006 Pinot Noir). In this month’s issue of Connoisseurs’ Guide, our 2007 Exuberance Syrah was rated 90 Points. Given the quality of our 2007 vintage, along with our small production, we’ve decided to release our 2007’s to our friends and loyal customers six months prior to our public release (see Wine Club below). We expect very little wine will be available for restaurants and wine bars after orders are filled from this pre-release.

NEW ! Canihan Family Cellars Wine Club:
In response to our customers’ requests, we have created the Canihan Family Cellars Wine Club in order to offer guaranteed access to our limited production wines, several months in advance of release to restaurants, wine bars, and select retailers. Given the deluge of orders for our 2004 Syrah in July 2007 (following the Best in Show-Red Wine award), we sold-out so quickly that we realized we needed a more equitable allocation model.

Our Wine Club members will receive automatic shipments of our new releases twice each year, access to our library wines, discounts on additional wine purchases, invitations to exclusive wine club parties and harvest events, and complimentary private tastings and tours. For more information about our new wine club, please visit www.canihanwines.com or click “Wine Club”.
