VINEYARD NOTES: Located on the border of the Sonoma Valley and Los Carneros appellations, planted in 1998 with SO4 and 101-14 rootstock, this 3.4 acre vineyard produces a cool-climate Syrah. Phil Coturri’s dry-farming, pruning techniques and biodynamic vineyard management practices result in low yields of less than two tons per acre. The vineyard will be certified organic this fall.

WINEMAKING NOTES: Destemmed Syrah grapes, along with a whole cluster lot were cold macerated for four days in open-top tanks before fermentation on native yeasts. The must was punched down twice daily during fermentation, allowed extended lees contact, then pressed and racked into 60-gallon French oak barrels (28% new) for malolactic fermentation and barrel ageing. During 20 months in French oak barrels, the Syrah was racked only twice and was not fined and only lightly filtered prior to bottling on May 30, 2006.

TASTING NOTES: Violet and lavender fragrance, raspberry and blackberry fruit, and exotic spices on the nose lead to a soft and elegant texture on the palate followed by a long, smooth, floral finish.
